Vande Bharat Mission Phase 4

The fourth round of Vande Bharat Mission is about to start from 3rd July 2020. The focus of Phase 4 will be the Gulf Countries, Malaysia, Singapore etc.

Vande Bharat Mission is the biggest evacuation exercise. In which Indian citizens stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 are being helped in coming back to India.

The Indian Navy also launched Operation “Samudra Setu” (sea bridge) – in which to stranded Indians were being helped in returning India through sea routes from the countries located in Indian Ocean region.

ICMR and Covid-19 Test Kits

The Indian council of Medical Research (ICMR) has invited application for validation of Rapid antigen detection test kits for Covid-19 virus.

So far, the real time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction in short know as RT – PCR is considered as gold- standard for testing and confirming with certainty the SARC Cov-2 (COVID-19) virus. However, the widespread availability of RT PCR is still limited thus the move is being taken by ICMR.

Antigen – in very simple terms, it is any substance which enters human body and induces immune response.

Antibody – it is the response of immune through which any antigen matter is neutralized by the human immune system.

Draft Environment Impact Assessment 2020

In the month of March, 2020 government issued notification wherein proposing new Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) rules.  The new rules have been put for public comments till 30th June, 2020. Regarding this a few student unions, activists, environmentalist across India have requested the Union Environment Ministry to put the new rules on hold.

The proposed rules will replace the existing EIA rules of 2006. EIA rules provide mechanism of assessment of determining the likely environmental impact due to proposed industrial activity in a region. EIA is a participatory process in which local people of the area too have their say.

In the draft rules – the period of public consultation hearings has been reduced to maximum of 40 days and time provided to public to file their objections/ reply has been reduced to 20 days from earlier 30 days. As per some objections it is argued that in places where information is difficult to get/ access the time period is not commensurate.

North Korea and South Korea War

North Korea and South Korea entered into war on June 25th 1950 and formally the war is still not withdrawn through a peace treaty. The fighting has been ended/ halted following armistice. The day has completed 70 years now.

At the end of world war II, the Korean peninsula got divided into two parts – the North and the South and in the year 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea in a bid to re- unite the whole peninsula once more.

CBSE and ICSE Board Exams Cancelled

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation there was uncertainty regarding the board examination of class 10th and class 12th students for the year 2020 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, in its recent decision the CBSE has decided to cancel the board examination for both class 10th and 12th students for the year 2020. Earlier the board examinations were scheduled to be conducted from 1st of July to 15th of July 2020. The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) also agreed in principle to this decision of cancelling exam.

 Fair & Lovely to change its name

The Hindustan Unilever (HUL) is to drop word Fair from its famous skin cream “Fair & Lovely”. The decision is being taken in the backdrop of – Black lives matter movement, in which words promoting or suggesting negative stereotype against people with darker skin is facing backlash in the world over and also in social media.
