In today’s world, we keep hearing about rise of prices. Whether it is prices of fuels, or the
monthly electricity bill. Due to this families are feeling pressure. Right now, there are two
main topics that popped up on internet are Oil prices and Energy cost. In many places, price
of diesel has become very high and people are worried about it. The main question is why
this is happening? Short answer is the world now a days is suffering from energy crisis,
which is due to ongoing conflicts between different countries and unstable supply chain.
The Spark: how conflicts disrupt supply
If we look at the map to understand this crisis, we will see that large amount of world’s oil
and natural gas come from the regions or countries that are currently in ongoing wars. The
countries that depend on this energy start to panic when such type of conflicts starts
When a war or conflict start, many countries stop buying oil from countries that are
involved in conflict due to safety risks. Because of this a huge difference create between
available energy and the amount of energy world needs. In the world of economics, when
the energy supply shorts but the demands remain the same, then prices start touching the
sky. This is main cause of current energy crisis
Understanding the Rise in oil prices
Oil is the most important part of our lives. It is the main energy source because it powers
almost everything. It is often reffered as black gold. It runs our cars, our factories, helps in
the generation of electricity. When prices of oil goes up, it acts like domino effect.
Now a days, oil prices has become so high that even going to grocery store become
expensive. That much rise in the price has not seen in years. Companies that deliver food
spends much on fuel, so they cost more for delivering food. Airlines charge more for tickets
because they pay high for jet fuel. Because oil is the main source of transportation, so it
effect everything we buy. When we see oil prices are hitting high record, it means that the
cost of living is increasing for everyone.
The Diesel Dilemma: A breakout problem
We often take about gasoline for our cars, but the real thing right now is the price of diesel.
In many region, it is most important topic because diesel is the engine of economy. The
everything we have like clothes, our phone, our electrical appliance, our food everything is
exported by the ships, trucks, train and other transport that heavily rely on diesel. So this
effect the economy more than regular gasoline.
It almost affect everything like for farmers, high diesel prices mean it is costly to plant and
harvest more crops. Due to this the prices of food increases. For delivery trucks, high diesel
prices mean they will charge more for shipping. Due to the ongoing conflicts now a days,
diesel prices increase dramatically. That’s why it has become a concern of every consumer
Soaring energy costs for homes
It’s not just the matter of fuel for vehicles. Energy cost for heating and electricity are also in
people’s mind. In cold areas, natural gas and heating oil are needed for heating homes. The
natural gas pipelines and supplies are disrupted due to the global conflicts. So the cost of
heating home become double or even triple.
Normal people are facing difficulty in choices. Expensives become so high that they are
choosing between paying for utilities and other essentials like medicine or education.
Governments are trying to step in to settle things. But it is very difficult. The high costs will
likely continue until global supply of energy stabilizes.
Looking Ahead
So, what will happen in future? This global energy crisis shows that every region, every
country is connected to each other. A conflict in one region can affect other regions or
countries that are even thousands miles away.
Experts suggest that volatility will continue. Prices might be high or low depending upon
political news. For long term, renewable energy resources may help us for less depending
on oil, like solar energy, wind energy. However, transition takes time and money
For now, we should remain update. The rise in the cost of oil and diesel and natural gas will
help us to understand about the world around us.
What can we do? Shift to renewable energy
The best solution for this during the crisis is to shift toward renewable energy sources like
solar, wind and hydropower. This does not depend on oil or the regions that are in conflict.
For families, if they will install solar panel system, they will get energy independence. It will
lower their electricity bills. Adding small steps like using energy efficient appliance,
insulating home, reducing unnecessary travel. When we will rely less on oil and diesel, we
will get stable future.
